Our Story
Amigos de Jesus was born from a labor of love on the grounds of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wimberley, TX. For years, Hispanic “day laborers” have gathered on-site at the church in the hopes of being picked up for work – odd jobs and ends ranging from landscaping to carpentry to painting, and the like. The church staff began to get to know these folks, bringing them food, hearing their stories, witnessing their deep desire for work and to better their lives, and the struggles they were facing in trying to do so. In an effort to help in a more concerted way, Amigos de Jesus was founded as a a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Our support has grown to offering assistance to all underserved populations in the Wimberley community and surrounding areas. We offer a bi-weekly food pantry called the Mercado where families come to get groceries, fans, heaters, and resources regarding education for their children. Volunteers and sponsors from several local faith communities coordinate and facilitate this humanitarian program backed by generous community donors, and other contributions. The recipients of its services are good, law-abiding families attempting to survive. Visit our Resources section to learn about our programs and services, or how to get help now. Please also consider serving as a volunteer, or donating.
